Is it worth buying 980ti or 1070 now?

Hi huys!
I really wonder whether it is reasonable to buy one of mentioned cards today? The next gen is about to come, so the problem is actual, at least I think so.
In my country the difference between prices of 980ti and 1070 is high enough: 980ti (only used) costs ~ 450$ while 1070 (new) costs above 710$. I assume the reason of these high prices is cryptocurrency mining, hence shortage.
I think the next generation will correct the market.
Is it worth waiting for the next gen?
What would you choose?
Thanks in advance

It's all about how you shop. I checked amazon at least a few hundred times in the week leading up to a purchase that I had been saving for for over 9 months. The day of, I probably checked dozens of times. I...

why you think a new gen of gpu cards will resolve the current video card shortage escapes me

i have a very hard time believing that the crypto miners will ignore a new series gpu simply because it's new.

all miners care about is can the card mine quickly, and since newer gpu chips are usually faster than previous ones

i suspect they will jump on the new cards just as fast as they are doing now the current cards

your question should be:
is it worthwhile to wait and pay a inflated price for a new gen card (if i can find one)
or should i try to find a older model used, for a inflated price

But the prices of new generation cards are supposed to be more reasonable than current ones. That's why I'm asking.
In addition to this, nvidia is planning to introduce Turing cards for miners ( if it's the turth, of course )

and that's going to stop crypto miners from buying gaming cards when they deplete the stock, or don't want to pay the premium of the new crypto cards?

get real, as soon as nvidia releases new model(s) the miners will most likely buy out mining and gaming variants

just like they have been doing for the past year

There is an opinion, that new gaming graphic cards will not be used for mining just because of software ( or hardware ) restrictition. If you want to mine, buy a mining card. (its price will be higher compared to gaming I think) Why should miners buy gaming cards if those wouldn't be able to mine?
I hope a gaming edition won't have an ability to mine.

And your answer is?

your expectations are not based on reality,... but just unfounded hope
current gpu models are all based on the same silicon with the makers (AMD/nVidia) simply disabling parts of the GPU to create sub models,.... this approach is not going to change

while a vender may release a mining oriented card, the gpu will still be the same one used in gaming cards and as such
will still be able to mine crypto, so as i said as soon as the mining oriented cards are gone the miners will then go after the normal cards

current crypto cards are just gaming cards with different clock/voltage settings and this trend also is not going to change

nvidia/AMD is not going to risk the capital designing a gpu specifically for the mining crowd, the investment is to great for such a small unstable market they will continue to take existing GPU designs and tweak the chips just like they do for the cad cam markets ala Firepro/quadro cards

. As I asked questions and did a super cargo ship of research I came to realize it was only the gfx card that needed to be upgraded. That was when the fun began. After a little over 9 months, this is what I have now.

I purchased an EVGA 1080 Ti FTW3 Hybrid. EVGA had the MSRP at $859 which is about $160 over Nvidia's vanilla version. I purchased it for $849 through Amazon. I had to stay with Amazon. I couldn't use any other retailers. You can. Check them and check often. The day after my purchase I couldn't find my card for less than $1299. The stock could be in for an hour and a flash sale can last just as long. Enable stock/pricing notifications at as many retailers as possible but don't rely on them solely. You may get a notification but Frank who is 1600 miles away got the notification earlier. You visit the page and it's "still" sold out.

In short, it is worth it if you can find a lower price which may take some time and patience. Don't have time nor patience? Completely not worth it.

The vanilla 1070 was released at $389 which is about $60 more than than what the 970 GFX cards were priced at at the time of release.

Thanks. I respect EVGA as well, actually speaking it is my favourite vendor.

They've earned mine. Their tech. support isn't simply reading a script or is only knowledgeable on how to uninstall and reinstall a driver before your call needs to be escalated which means a 1-3 day wait. EVGA knows PC's and their reps. are real people and not simply a bunch of trained mouth-pieces. Their liberal warranty service is another plus. Another AIB partner hears I OC'd my card 25MHz. I'm sorry YOUR WARRANTY IS VOID!!!!! I replaced the GPU's TIM. WARRANTY VOID!!!!!!! I added a waterblock. VOID!!!!!!!!!!!! Yep, I prefer EVGA.

I like them for their warranty policy. I mean, if someone is the end owner, why is he supposed to have no warranty? EVGA has solved this issue, whereas MSI and others just tell something of the sort: "Oo, sorry, but you have not bought the card from us, bye bye, see you later".
Such deals... ))
