My system hangs and I can't figure out why. Not after doing anything specific and not under heavy load. All input ceases to work but display stays on with the picture frozen.

Components currently in are these:

I have changed the motherboard to another of the same type (as I thought that I broke the original one). I have also tried two different graphics card, currently installed one is old / outdated.

Temperatures don't go up. Memtest doesn't give any problems.

At the moment I don't even have a disk installed and just running with a linux livecd, but same issue happens if I plug in my existing hd and boot into my desktop.

All help appreciated.

Have you got any peripheral devices connected such as a PCIe usb card etc? If so, try removing them temporarily.

Also, try to unplug the front port inputs (for the case) - maybe just leave the power button connected and see if you notice anything? May be a grounding issue.

Check all your PSU connections - are the CPU and 12V power securely connected?.

Check that your RAM is installed into the correct slots and is compatible with your motherboard - check the motherboard manual.

Are you running the latest stable BIOS version?

May also be something with OS? Does the same happen with a clean install of windows?

Actually it looks like it was just a random issue that happened on a first boot as I haven't had any crashes since then. So it most likely was faulty mobo.

Thanks for your comment though.
