Hello so i have 2x4 DDR3 ram and i can do dual channel but i have the same speed 4gb ram that i have installed right now so i have 12gb of ram which i believe is in single channel my mobo is the M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3 im getting a new pc once the ram prices will go down and the gpu prices
so that being said is the 2x4 8gb better than the single channel 12gb?

Solution
Dual channel is about 2-4% faster than single channel when a discrete GPU is used. The performance hit is much greater when the integrated graphics are used. Most games do not use up 8GB of RAM so I would go with 2x4GB in dual channel.

Yes, your motherboard supports dual channel.

Given the age your system, your CPU and (probably GPU) is your bottleneck, not the amount of RAM you have. Therefore, the extra 4gb of RAM will not give you any additional performance. The extra 4gb of RAM will just sit idle doing nothing.

My advice is to keep running 8gb. 8gb will meet the minimum specs for every game that I know of and with your system meeting the minimum should be your goal cause you wont be able to hit recommended on new AAA games.

Additionally, I would not drop another dime in your system. I would save up some cash and upgrade your platform as well. The new 2400g would be a very good budget system.

OC at 4ghz

With that system you dont need more than 8gb of RAM. If you are happy with your fps, then I would not change a thing.

But your CPU is 8 years old, I would not put any money in that platform instead I would save that money to something that is more modern. If you buy more DDR3 RAM, you wont be able to use it on a modern CPU as DDR4 is required. So you will be throwing good money after bad.

If I were you I would run that system util you dont like the performance. Now is the absolute worst time to get a new gaming PC.
