Hello,

I'm planing to build a second pc for some rendering stuff. Right now I only have the CPU and motherboard. The motherboard is part that worries me.

After buying the motherboard, Asrock Z370M Pro4, I have found several not that great comments about it. Specifically its VRM. Comments like "with that VRM, I wouldn't put I7 8700K in there, too weak, not enough phases, doesn't have heatsinks, prolonged heavy use will kill it / cpu, etc.". Even though I don't plan to overclock the processor, these comments worries me. I don't want to blow VRM due to heavy cpu use or kill the cpu from unstable VRM.

So, the question is: Did i bought bad motherboard that is not suitable for I7 8700K? Should I return it and get better one?

I did returned it today and when the guy was checking it, found glue on the pins in the socket. So, that made me glad that I returned it.

What about the Asrock Fatal1ty Z370 ITX? Does it have better VRM?

I've read that Asrock used to be "quite bad" back in the days and then somewhere else I've read that nowadays is far better. So who knows.

I don't need any of those "premium" thing like flashy RGB, bios flashing button, on/off reset switch (aslo display) on MB. So I wouldn't really mind if it was budget motherboard. As long as the VRM don't blow up or CPU don't get zapped from sustained heavy use I'm fine with it.

I don't plan to overclock it. Just something that wouldn't blow after hours/days of heavy CPU use.
I did returned the board so I don't have it anymore.

I did listed that one board as a shoot in the dark because i thought that at ~170€ (compared to ~110€ Z370M Pro4) it cannot be that bad. So any suggestions are welcome.

No not at all you can buy a Asrock board and a Asus board in the same price range and I would take the Asrock any day.
Asus is not the great company they once were, now your paying more for the name.

After checking out definition of offshoot, I found out that what I thought it meant was wrong. I understood it as "similar, but not same / nearly good as", not as "developed from".

Very good boards , I'm running the Z370 EXTREME 4 , couldn't be happier with it. Have also owned the Z77 Extreme 4 and the 990FX Extreme 9.

I can also attest to how good ASRock's motherboards are. I've used them for a good 6 years now and their boards never let me down. I have a z97 pro4 that I ragged till hell and back overclocking for nearly 4 years and it's still rocking. I currently use the extreme4 too, as I thought about going Asus for a change from ASRock until someone slapped me round the head and gave me the gospel I forgot about.

Subjective, I know, but the Extreme4 is a solid board I'd highly recommend. Hope whatever you go with it'll serve you well and make you happy.

Good luck!
