Hello I was wondering if anyone happened to know how to update the standard sata ahci controller? Reason why I ask is because my WD HDD Blue 1Tbb has been performing very poorly(extremely slow when loading games) recently and I have been attempting many things to fix the performance. I posted a thread previously about something else that was related to this issue of mine, and someone was suggesting to update my sata controller drivers or sata chipset drivers(these two different things?)to see if that would work.

Unfortunately I’m still somewhat new to updating these type of things. My mobo is the “MSI B150 m3 gaming”and I checked msi’s website if they have anything related to sata controller and they don’t. I did see though that my intel chipset drivers are up to date if that means anything. I installed iobit driver booster to check and I'm shown that the driver for the SATA controller is "very old" and the current version is from 2006 and the new one to update to is from 8/7/2017.

I am a little unsure in trusting these types of software but I confirmed it was correct after checking device manager and it indeed is from 2006, any idea where I can find the newer version for this sata controler driver? Should I just update it through this software or is there anywhere else I can get it from? Any help would be appreciated.

Solution
run a malware scan and hitman pro scan a lot of 3 party tools are just virus droppers. on your msi mb check that it has the newest bios on it. with intel mb the sata chipset is part of the intel chipset inf.

I’ve done performance tests and they seem fine such as transferring files from one drive to another. I’ve also done many different tests like using life gaurd, or WD hdd drive program, Windows check, and the cmd check. Currently when loading a game for example the write speeds caps to 2 Mb/sec.

It simply shouldn’t take a good 7 minutes for my brand new Seagate SSHD to simply load into the main menu of Rainbow six siege.

This issue is affecting both my WD SATA 3 1tb bluehard drive and my Seagate Firecuda SSHD hard drive. I have 16gb if ram and I’ve already tried defragging. How can I check virtual memory settings?

I will try run a scan with my vipre antivirus program, and i thought one should avoid changing the bios if possible? Again I'm still fairly new to this but ultimately your saying for me to update the bios of the mobo? I do not quite understand what you mean by the sata chipset is the part of the intel chipset. My intel chipset drivers have been up to date for a while now, with the most recent and more than likely final update being January 2017. However the sata control drivers according to device manager is from 2006. So what do you mean by saying they are a part of one another? Sorry if I misunderstood you. So should I update the sata control drivers through iobit or through something else? Assuming that could in fact be the issue considering how old the driver is.
