I accidentally pressed the delete button on an important folder with thousands of individual files inside amounting to 35 GB. Immediately I closed the operation by clicking on the 'x' mark. Checking recycle bin doesn't show anything deleted for the day, am I screwed? Does stopping delete partway through return the deleted files?

Unless you hit shift-delete (that skips recycle) your files will go to the recycle bin. If theres nothing in recycle, nothing got deleted.
