Yes it should work. Just maybe start with putting everything on low and increase settings one by one and watch how it affects your game. Also in steam you can enable FPS counter which can help determining which settings slow the game down too much. I generally put shading/textures no higher than medium, and draw distance can also cause slowdown as well as vegetation.
