So my Wi-Fi usually is 12-15 mbps when I do a speed test but when I try to download a game from steam or some other place I am lucky to get 3 mbps and I am not using a hardline but when I do I only get an extra 1 to 2 mbps more speed.

thank you in advance

Your system is working exactly as expected.

Speedtest.net and your ISP report in megabits/sec
Steam reports in megabytes/sec.

Approx 8:1 ratio.

15 megabits/sec from speedtest.net = ~1.5 megabytes/sec from Steam.

You need to understand that the people providing the files to be downloaded pay for a bandwidth and they try and fit everyone into that bandwidth so they will often throttle you.

Just an guess on your numbers but it looks to me that you are getting 12-15mbps down and when you download like for example threw steam etc.. it is actually in Mbps? not mbps.. I would double check that you are not seeing a big M instead of an little m... Also yea check your settings in steam as it does have a bandwidth limiter. and like others said it could just be the service you are connecting to..

Its big B vs little b that's important, bytes vs bits, little m is milli, big M is mega.
