Planning to buy an I3 8100. Should I wait for Ryzen 2.0?

Title is obvious enough I guess. Was planning to buy an R3 1300X at first but I play Arma 3 a lot and that game doesn't like AMD CPU's at all so I decided to go with an 8100 but I still haven't decided if I should wait for Ryzen 2 and I have no idea how well that CPU will handle the game and I will be going to the College in a year so I don't have much time. Any help will be appreciated.

It is up to you. If you can wait for the release then there is no harm in doing so. I agree with yeti, but if they get close then a few fps won't make any difference, but cost and board support will. Remember Intel likes to force you to have to get new mb's when new cpu's launch, but AMD said they will support AM4 until 2020.

You should wait, since the launch is only a few weeks away, however I don't think new ryzens will be able to beat coffee lake
performance so the chances you are actually going to get a better processor is fairly low

As said before, it would be fine to wait for Ryzen 2 and benchmarks to come out. I think Ryzen 2 can be pretty competitive with Coffee Lake assuming that they can fix a lot of their memory compatibility and overclocking issues. Supposedly Ryzen 2 is supposed to have slightly improved IPC as well, which could push it pretty close to Coffee Lake performance.

Only benchmarks will tell, so waiting would be fine here.

Going by past refreshes, I wouldn't expect any great jump in performance from Ryzen 2. AMD's approach usually amounts to the refresh being a slightly higher clocked version of what came before. It's like they iron out issues in manufacturing and start producing higher quality versions of what they already were making. This might mean the new 1300x level would be 10% faster than the old 1300x, but still slower than the i3 8100.

Keep in mind that what is coming out is Zen+. I don't think Zen 2 is actually until later this year or next year. However it will probably give a bit of an IPC boost and probably higher clock speeds. That being said, if you are talking about i3, if memory serves, Intel didn't really increase IPC on the new 8th generation parts, and there was only maybe a 10 percent or so difference between ryzen and last generation i5. What I'm saying is coffee lake will probably be slightly better on IPC that ryzen +, but probably won't be too much of a difference. Also, if you are playing at 1080p 60hz, you probably won't even see a difference on most things to be honest.
