Hi Toms Hardware
I've done some research on this topic but I can't confirm or deny anything I've found so far with real information or facts.
I own a Dell PowerEdge T110 and a Dell PowerEdge R210, both currently have regular 4x4GB DDR3 Non-ECC RAM and both have the same Xeon X3430 processor which is ECC compatible. I do not want to lower the server's RAM capacities at all but I need that RAM elsewhere, in some other consumer-grade systems.
ECC Registered memory is dirt cheap on eBay (unlike unregistered ECC), and I can get a 4x4GB DDR3 Registered kit for less than $40. Now I understand completely that Registered ECC is so cheap because so few systems can use it. My question is simple. Can my PowerEdge T110 & R210 systems use ECC Registered memory, being server machines which already support unregistered ECC?
Thanks!
B
