Kindle connects only when I'm close to router.

My kindle connected to the WiFi perfectly for about a year, then it was stepped on. Only the screen cracked, but then the WiFi would only connect if I was within three inches to three feet of the router. Then, it did the authentication problem and I did a factory reset and it was doing the distance thing again. It connects fine with other wifi's when I sign in to them. Other devices, both apple and android connect except mine. Very annoying, please help, I'm out of ideas!

Solution

Completely unknown, until you get it apart.

The screen is probably held in with some glue substance, and the damage to the WiFi is unknown.

That's what I suspected... Can I get it fixed/ replaced with little cost? I don't really know electronics, so I wouldn't know the pricees of the parts or how to replace them.

Cracked screen, mostly busted WiFi.
Any "repair" would almost certainly be more than a new one.
Which model Kindle is it?

I have a fire HD 5th generation. If I could get my hands on another one, could I save all my info onto a hard drive to transfer to the other device?

Seeing as a Gen 7 Fire is only $50-$70...

If you can power it up connected to a PC, you can probably save whatever is not already stored in the amazon cloud space.

OK,just exploring my options, how hard would it be to replace those parts if I got them? Would I need an expert, or could I do it myself?
