Solution

You need to look beyond the "m.2" designation, and look at SATA vs NVMe.

m.2 is just the physical connection.
They can be either SATA based or NVMe.

A SATA m.2 drive is exactly the same performance as a regular 2.5" SATA III SSD. And the same price.

An NVMe drive (960 Pro, for instance), is way faster. And more expensive.

At $80, you're looking at a 120GB drive. Which is TooSmall.

At that price point. The best you'll get is the Western Digital Blue 3D. Which is pretty close to a Samsung 850 Evo as I recall. Just be careful there is the new 3D version and the old 2D version. You want the 3D. The 2D isn't very good.

Just to note. Those SSD in that price bracket are SATA with an M.2 interface. They are no better than 2.5" SSD. For just a little more. You can get a WD Black. Which is NVMe. It is far faster.

The WD black is also on the motherboard's M.2 support list. I doubt there'd be any problems with the 3D Blue. It's too new to make the list. The prior 2D model made the list.
