Wifi landline not working when plugged into laptop

When the wifi based phoneline is directly plugged into the router it will work perfectly, however my office is upstairs which I need to get the wifi landline to my office, I have tried plugging it into my Ethernet port on my laptop but the telephone reads 'obtaining ip address' and moves no further. Is there any way I can get this phoneline to run from my laptop?

you can't just plug into a phone line, that's an rj-11 port so that's probably an Ethernet port you are plugging into but you can't skip the router that's how you will send data outside of your local network and in this case your dhcp server or the known path to it.

What specific device is this...the "wifi based phoneline".
