Hey guys I have a question about the plethora of hi fi 5 or 7 channel systems on motherboards. If your using a headset that connects via usb do you even benifit from the on board audio suite? If not should you target headsets with only the 3.5mm jacks? Any additional info would be great. Thx in advance.

Simple answer, nope! Any audio device that is USB driven has all of the audio processing done across the USB interface/port. It's also suggested to disable the onboard audio chip in BIOS when you plan to work with a USB driven audio device. If you want to take advantage of the onboard functionality and you want proper surround sound(no stereo sound upmixing) then you should look at Razer's Tiamat headset that connects to the analogs ports on your sound card(physically).

If you target stereo headsets you're only going to use one port off the sound card(i.e the green jack).
