CPU Cooler: CRYORIG - R1 Ultimate 76.0 CFM CPU Cooler ($89.89 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: MSI - Z370 SLI PLUS ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($134.79 @ OutletPC)
Total: $224.68
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

The board has 10 CPU power phases with 2 mosfets per phase which should be pretty good for overclocking. The cooler is on par with Noctua NH-D15(which you can also consider), but looks much much better.

Eh, I love my build. It's designed primarily for 1080p 60hz gaming @ Ultra in game settings. At stock, there isn't a game I can't max out, and play solid at 60hz/FPS. Exactly what I wanted. That's at stock. With a bit of an OC on the CPU and ram, I'm loving it even more! :)

There's nothing it can't handle the way I want or expect. It has great single thread performance (although still lags behind Intel by about 10-20% IPC for a comparable CPU), amazing multi-thread performance with only higher end Ryzens (with more cores/threads) and Intel 8700k (and apart from some very expensive higher end Intel Core X CPU's ) beating it on multi-thread performance.

Of course, I went for a budget option, with the Ryzen 1st Gen, cheaper B350 mobo's, so from a price conscious perspective, I'm absolutely over the moon with the choice.

I play games like BF1, COD WW2, Grid series, Project Cars series, F1 Series, Wolfenstein 2, Titanfall 1/2. It eats those for breakfast.

It also handles gaming and streaming simultaeniously, like a champ, and beats an i5 8600k for smoothness whilst doing both. All-round a great CPU.
Are there slightly faster options, yes! Are the slightly better, more core/thread CPU's, yes. For the price/performance and longevity, would I change my mind on my selection, NO. I'm happy out.

Not really. if you haven't already read Tom's own article on that, here it is : http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/game-streaming-encoding-coffee-lake-ryzen,5326.html

Extrapolate the difference, and you get a clear recommendation. The numbers are there very clearly. The 6 core 8600k maxes out, and can't quite provide the same gaming/streaming smoothness that the 6c/12t 1600/x does.

Like i said, on pure FPS, the CL CPU's will win out. Factor in streaming or in the case of the 8600k, multi-thread performance and the Ryzen 6c/12t are a real option, and better.

There are some gaming streaming scenarios where the 8600k wins out, but the 1600x wins in more I think.
It's not all about pure FPS you know. The actual experience is just as important a metric. If it's smoother gaming, and has a great output for the streaming aspect, then Ryzen wins out. Ryzen 7 v i7 8700k is a lightly different story, but similar.

'In the end, a six-core Core i5-8600K is forced to battle the 12-thread Ryzen 5 1600X, which offers a more balanced profile. Overclocking does help Intel somewhat. It can't overcome the advantage AMD gets from a more thread-heavy architecture, but it shrinks the gap somewhat in streaming workloads.'

From Tom's conclusion.

I'm not disagreeing with you. But still, remain objective.

My previous statement was bang on. Thanks for verifying that.

The logic is pretty simple. If your priority is gaming and basic streaming, then Intel takes the lead convincingly.
But if gaming is not your priority and you want a mixed workload with decent gaming performance as backup, then Ryzen shines there due to the extra threads.

hmmmm......i think this could go on for a while, so Ill make this as short as I can.

The OP asked me a specific question, I've answered clearly, and with information to back that up. If you want to argue semantics, about gaming and basic streaming, well, good on you.

I didn't mention gaming/and basic streaming, but rather the best results for both based on Tom's own article and my own experience. Feel free to argue those points as you wish.

I think, what I've tried to explain is quite clear.

Rather than trolling my post with 'I think that's a bit of an exaggeration' and based on what I actually wrote in my post, and the corresponding article posted, I think anything beyond this final answer is moot.

Thanks for your input.

We were discussing the best motherboard for that Intel processor where you made a comment about 1600x being superior in gaming and streaming, which isnt correct about the gaming part and i was just discussing the same, and if you call that trolling with all the benchmarks and reviews all over the web, then well...i cant help your ignorance.

Here are some more benchmarks for additional research... https://www.techspot.com/review/1505-intel-core-8th-gen-vs-amd-ryzen/

I think OP has got sufficient information to make an informed decision, and there is no point debating about this anymore.
Cheers...

Guys thanks for the help I will probably end up going for the i5 as I will mostly game but I don’t know I might make a twitch and start streaming rainbow. The risen 5 1600x is superior in streaming but not the best at gaming where as the comple opposite for the i5 which is more expensive. Is it really worth another 80 pound for cpu and a cooler or should I go with the cheaper option. Thanks
