Greetings community,

I hope someone can help me with my roommates slow windows load time.

Specs:
CPU: Intel 3258
Motherboard: MSI H81m-p33
GPU: Integrated
Memory: 8gigs G.skill 1333Mhz
Storage: 1x 120g Samsung 850 evo SSD, 1x Samsung 1TB HD
PSU: XFX TS 550

I gave my roommate this PC about a month ago with a fresh install of windows 10. At that time it would boot as it should (about 10-15 seconds) however it now takes over 5 minutes. It now sits at the windows log in screen without showing HD activity (indication light) for about 5 minutes but once the HD indicates activity it only takes about 10 seconds to load windows. It also works fine once into windows and shows no other signs of problems or slowdowns.

Things that I have tried:

-Reset Bios
-Unplugged second HD
-Unplugged all pereferals
-Insured ACHI was on
-Checked SSD performance with Samsung magician
-Updated all drivers
-Safe mode (takes 3+ minutes)
-Checkdisk and windows file integrity - no errors
-Virus and malware scans -clean
-Disabling all non critical programs from startup
-Checked temperatures
-Changed Sata Ports
-TRIM is on

I have also used Windows system recording to record the boot process but that is way over my skill level.

One thing that I have found to be a bit odd is if I set it to boot from the SSD in the bios it tells me that no OS can be found however if I have the HD priority on (cant remember wording but essentially auto detect) it boots (slowly) even if no other drives are plugged in.

I appreciate any help!

That is to be expected with a Windows 10 installation on a UEFI motherboard.
Going through UEFI for booting is supposedly more secure.

Just a shot in the dark but my brother had a similar issue last week
Try these steps:

1. Stop the Windows Update service.
2. Erase all data in the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder
3. Start the Windows Update service.
4. Check for updates and let it finish.

Apparently on my brother's laptop a bunch of updates kept trying to install but failed each time.
Every time he would start his computer they would try again ...
Erasing the updates and redownloading them fixed his issue.

Update:

My PC
4770K
12G ram
1060 6g
Intel SSD

My pc had a windows 10 update a couple weeks after my roommates PC started having issues and I also started having restart times of over 2 minutes. The same exact symptoms his PC has. I was frustrated enough that I downgraded back to a fresh Windows 7 install. I now have 17 second restarts as I should. So I guess what I am getting at is I believe is it may be an OS issue and not a hardware issue. Thank you everyone who gave suggestions.

Wow this worked like a charm for me. After months of suffering slow boot times I finally fixed it. Thanks man! Cheers!
