so i know the card only supports single link dvi but if i use a hdmi 2.0 cable will i be able to reach 144hz or 120 hz on this monitor Acer GN246HLB

Solution
With the monitor you have no, specifically need a gpu with Dvi DL.

For guaranteed 144hz and if your 1030 has Displayport, another monitor with this connection is required. I had a look at standard connections at Nvidia for your gpu and says there DP 1.4 is included but 3rd party partners may not include it so check yours.

Hdmi 2 120/144hz @ 1080p may be possible. Need to find a monitor that states it can. Often this information is not easy to find because Displayport is predominantly used.

So no easy way around it, if you wish to have 144hz in work environment, get a new 144hz monitor with Displayport is by far the least hassle.
