My M.2 SSD isnt being recognized through a PCI-E adapter

I bought an M.2 SSD, and didn't realize that my computer didn't have an M.2 slot. So i bought an M.2 to PCI-E adapter so that I could install my M.2 SSD through my PCI-E slot. The problem is that the Bios or Windows, neither one recognizes my new drive. Any help you could provide will be greatly appreciated. I would like to make it a bootable drive if possible but i'll settle for just getting it to be recognized and usable.

Specs you need to know:

Mother Board model: MSI Z170A Krait Gaming 3X LGA 1151 Intel Z170 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 ATX Intel Motherboard

M.2 SSD Model: crucial mx300 525GB s/n :163713e630CC

M.2 PCIE ADAPTER MODEL #: ADM2PX4

mx300 is a sata type ssd, return the m.2 ssd, get a regular 2" ssd

Can you please explain what you mean? i dont understand all the different formats that an ssd comes in apparently. You are saying that the one I have is sata, but it says m.2 right on the memory. Granted it also says sata. Does that mean that i need a different adapter entirely? I dont think returning the ssd is an option at this point.

That is a SATA based SSD.

m.2 is simply the physical connection.
That drive will not work in the PCIe slot and adapter you have.

However, your motherboard DOES have a native m.2 port.

Look in the link I posted and there you see what they talk about.

If you dont know the difference between the M.2 SSD and M.2 NVMe, dont worry cause it is pretty simple to spot.

Again look in the link I posted and take a look at both the Crucial and Samsung M.2 drives. Look at the "golden" connector part. You see on the Crucial that it has 2 cut outs? And that the Samsung only has 1.
Well that tells you that the Crucial is an regular SSD and that the Samsung is an NVMe drive.
