As it's an HP laptop there will very likely be at least two partitions on it, all those except 'C' partition will be hidden -- but are viewable in Disk Management. One of the hidden partitions will contain a backup of the original Windows pre-install for Factory Recovery.
The bottom line is, if there is no unallocated space on the drive (again, this you can check in Disk Management) you won't be able to create any new partitions on it without first deleting an existing one. Such action however is not without risks as you could be left with a laptop that won't boot.
If you need more storage space it would be much safer to buy a couple of external hard drives (one for your data and one for a backup of it ). Don't be tempted to manage with only one because with no backups you will live to regret it, believe me.
