My current build

CPU: I5-3570K @4.2 GHz 1.130v
GPU: Gigabyte AMD Radeon HD 7970 OC Edition
Memory: 2x4GB Corsair Vengence DDR3 1600MHz
Storage: 1tb WD Black HDD
CPU Cooler: hyper 212 EVO w Noctua fan
Case: CM Storm Scout 2 White Fans: 2x Cooler Master stock 120mm fans in front and 1 120mm Corsair in the back
PSU: Corsair CX750W

I have had coil whine or certain games it seems to be random which games from what I can tell some games do some don’t. I was advised that it could be the gpu if you’ve ever had a strange noise coming from your pc you’d know it can be hard to pinpoint exactly where it’s coming from. I ran furmark to stress test the gpu and after a few minutes there was no noticeable coil whine so I assume that it is the power supply. I always use headphones so it doesn’t really bother me it seems to be in some games the higher the FPS the louder it gets and vsync tends to help. I want to get an upgrade and was thinking about getting either an SSD or some more RAM but maybe a PSU would be a good idea anybody have any advice? By the way my system is about 4 years old and the only thing I’ve ever upgraded is 2 fans. Today I launched a game (Fortnite) and it started in Fullscreen Windowed mode for some reason and then I got greeted with a blank red screen and a reboot. Because of this I clocked down to 4.0Ghz and kept the same voltage. I ran prime 95 for almost 24 hours at 4.2 so I don't know if it's related I'm just sick of all these issues and don't know what it is.I also have an issue where when I put my PC in sleep mode sometimes it won't come out of it. It won't turn off it's just nothing will happen forcing me to switch it off with the power button.

Your PSU is most likely still within its RMA window. If you suspect a problem, then send it back. You can even use their advance RMA to get a replacement sent to you first, so not only do you have no downtime you all of a sudden have a very handy set of packaging to return the defective unit in! :)

I'm now waiting for a reply to my ticket but I've had this thing for years so idk if they'll even do anything. I've been told this is a really bad power supply anyways so maybe I just need an upgrade but the thing is I don't even know if the problems are because of the PSU.

According to t'internet, the warranty period for this unit is 3 years, so you may be out of luck. :(

It may not be the best PSU on the market, but Corsair are one of the reputable brands; it certainly doesn't qualify for 'really bad', in my book! Unfortunately the issue with PC faults is that the cause isn't always easily identifiable - the PSU is a good place to start with this, but it's not guaranteed to be the cause of your problem.

I was hoping there was a way to diagnose the problem but I guess I would need an extra psu to tell. I might just buy a new one I'm looking but in my book a power supply is the most complicated part of the PC part picking experience. I'm looking into either a Corsair rmx, a evga supernova g3 (but that's at the bottom because it seems to have a lot of issues), or a Seasonic Focus Plus. I think 750w should be good. I'm still curious whether or not my overclock was causing an issue
