What's the best alternative for this 8th generation CPU, if you want SLI in full bandwidth (not 1*16)+(2*8) on PIC-E 16X van. 3 and higher than 2666 MEM Speed.....

Doesn't make any difference, and SLI should be used as a last resort, it's not as well supported as you might like to see.

The article is a little old, but pci-e2.0x8 is the same at 3.0 x4. So GPU's would have to be significantly more powerful to make it worthwhile, we aren't there yet.

Hello Diellur,
Thx for you're reply! Is there any CPU in specific that you had in mind? Considering the price/status/performance features in question. I know the Coffee Lake has an outstanding status, but doesn't deliver the needs I requested. I surely would appreciate a gesture from you to point me in the right direction in this regard. Sofar my research points me to a 7th generation CPU, but I would like an 8th generation as it is compliant with the Z370 chipset for certain MB's. Otherwise I go down one generation in technology and the MB's are more expensive as well.... Hope you can inform me on this one... Off course I'll take you're advise at heart and start looking for it... Again, appreciate the response!

Good Day 13themonkey,
Do you meanthat 2x8 equals 1x16 when it comes down to bandwidth performance in SLI?
I was under the impression that it would cut off have the bandwidth on the 2nd card when in SLI.
But I understand from you're reply that it makes no difference?! Could you explain please how that works? Either way, thx in advance for you're thoughts and reply : much abbligied :)

Not a clue, I've never run an '-E' platform. Currently on Skylake running 980Tis in SLI, and have had good performance from them. I don't think I'm losing out by having lower bandwidth; only thing I know of that can currently saturate PCIe lanes is an SSD.

Hey 13themonkey,
Thx for you're answer, I checked it out:you seem to know you're stuff:)
I never realized that picex8 doesn't saturate the bandwidth... We indeed aren't there yet. Good news, helped met out here!
Now I also realized that since I also want to use the famous Samsung 960 Evo, how that affects the bandwidth by lanes support with the Coffee Lake. I guess I have to find out that as well now. Since I was opting for the pci nve m.2 (2280). Just one TB version for now, but it might cause issues. I wonder how sharing of pcie lanes and bandwidth sharing is handled by the controller. Any input or suggestions are more than welcome of course ;-)

Hi Diellur,
Thx for thinking ahead and reminding me about SSD'S bandwidth saturation in this regard. I see now that I can do with pciex16+pciex8 for SLI, but for the ssd I'll run into trouble... I extend you my appreciation :)

Hi 13themonkey,
First, thx for you're quick response!
Secondly, good to hear that the chipset handles the other PCIE lanes, now I finally got the answers I was looking for;very helpful and satisfying to conclude that I can use my original hardware setup. Provided that I downsize the memory speed to 2666.live is full of comprises, I guess I would be wise to do so considering the extensive price saving. It also enables me to upgrade the hardware in the future to the gth generation of CPU's, while enjoying the features of the Z370 MB. Wanted to combine it with the ASUS MAXIMUS X HERO Wi-Fi. You have been a great help to me and certainly appreciate it a lot. Too bad I see no way to return the favor... Maybe we will meet in the battlefield one day in gaming.. Maybe than I can be helpful to you :) Cause when it comes to first person shooting games... I feel right at home and made as many friends as I did enymies... It doesn't sound very modest, but I had a fierce reputation till my pc broke down... If you don't mind telling me you're alias, I would cover you're flanks with pleasure :)
I'm a Dutch guy, so might live in another timezone.. Take care!!

it's nearly always 13thmonkey, but i don't play any more, might fire BF4 up now and then.

Be aware that you seem to think that you'll be able to next generation, you MIGHT be able to do 9th gen, but that is unknown at this time, 99% certain you will not be able to 10th gen.

Ok, thx. I'll remember that name since I also have that game. Indeed, 10th generation is a long shot, even for a sniper like me :)
Anyway, by that time I hope to have my plans ready to rob a bank...;-)
By the way, which country are you from?
Take care!!
