Asus Maximus VII Hero SATA port failure

Hi
Just out of the blue Intel controller port #5 failed, I moved HDD to another port and it is working fine.
I have 6 SATA ports on Intel controller and 2 SATA ports on Ahmedia controller.

1. So port failure is final, or something can be done about it?
2. Is port failure is the beginning of motherboard failure? And I have to consider new PC (this one is only about 3 years old and cost me $3K)?

Any suggestions always appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

ASMedia Controller ;)

1| If there are any BIOS updates pending, update the board and see if you regain the port's functionality.
2| If the board is within your warranty period and you've narrowed the port to be failing/faulty then you should RMA it asap.

On another note, as long as the platform serves throughout it's warranty period, then it's done it's job as seen by Asus.

Thanks for quick reply.
Short question. Will BIOS update mess up all BIOS settings, including overclock? I forgot when I did BIOS upgrade last time.

EDIT. Is there any application that can find MOBO serial number, mine most likely covered with something.

Warranty is only 3 years, so it is passed already. Only BIOS update left to try..
