1.4v worth it to get R5 1600 to 3.8 GHz?

I'm wondering. I have a very bad overclocker. I don't want to push higher and 3.8 GHz is all I get. Even 3.825 GHz is not stable. But that's only 100 MHz above XFR that can boost up to 4 cores. Temps are fine. Nothing above 81C during one and a half hour of Prime95 torture. I'm inclined to leave it like this. A non-OCed non-x Ryzen is kinda weird :heink:

AMD states 1.425v as highest recommended long term voltage but you have to cool it properly. According to same source, 75c is also recommended as highest temperature for long term use.
Although some may consider those to be conservative (AMD covering their as*) it's still best to stay between those parameters.

Thanks for the answers. I have a better cooler arriving that should keep temps under 75C at all times.

One question I have is regarding "core performance boost" bios option. In my ASROck BIOS this option is buried and left enabled when you control clocks and voltages manually (no "oc" or "advanced mode"). Could this be the reason why my OCs are 99% stable but just not quite? Some OC guides mention to disable this while others don't. Seems this option pertains to both regular boost and XFR. I did notice that I get higher clocks than what I entered. For example right now I'm stress testing 3.6GHz at stock 1.2375v with my RAM at 3066MHz with boost enabled and max clocks in HWMonitor show 3.685GHz on all cores even tho 3.6GHz should be max. Will disabling boost improve stability?

XFR works only with "X" processors like in 1600x, that's probably why it's disabled. Because of glitch in AGESA, BCLK frequency is almost never 100MHz exactly so perceived RAM and CPU frequency is never round number. If you left turbo on it will boost frequency a bit anyway, only if you have that and C.modes off, it may stay put at some frequency.

Non x CPUs do have XFR. That’s verified.

It’s not disabled but enabled by default like I said.
