Cpu or gpu

I’m currently wanting to buy a new rig and completely lost on what to buy, my budget is around M.D. £1250 too but hoping to only spend £1100.

I’m trying to decide on whether to favour a cpu or a gpu. I mainly play online games like dota 2 and player unknown battlegrounds.

I’ve looked at a rig with i7700 with a gtx 1070 for about £1200

A i8700k with a 1060 for a similar price.

Or save myself some money as just go for an i5 7600k 1060 for about £1050.

Another question is there much difference between a 7700k and just a 7700?

Appreciate any advice

K Intels can be overclocked and Ks usually have slightly higher stock clock speeds.

As far as the choices, the 8700K will give you probably the best deal, while the 1060 GPU is slower then the 7700 with the 1070 once GPU prices come down you can upgrade it.

It would be hard to justify getting a 7th gen intel at this point since there isnt an upgrade path for them now that the 8th gens are out and it uses a different socket.

Ok I have narrowed it to 3 choices

Either an i7 8700k 1060 6gb -£1299
Or i5 7600k 1070 £1229 (this has a 120gb ssd the others 2 are 250gb)
Or a basic i7 7700 (no ‘k’) this has a 1080 somehow for £1299

Sounds like you are looking at pre built pc's
The devil is in the details.
You can and should show the links.
Pre built pc's are usually short on power supply quality.

If you primarily play fast action games, a strong graphics card option like the GTX1080 would be best.
If you play cpu limited games, like sims, mmo and strategy games, the stronger I7-8700K would be the best.
If you are buying new, I would look first to a 8th gen processor.
My guess would be that a i5-8600K and a GTX1070 would be a good compromise.
