Dead Seagate Barracuda 3tb internal hard drive causing issues with a 2nd identical hard drive.

Just had a hard disk failure (Drive 1) last night and hence was removed.

But when booting up this morning I got a bios post AHCI Port error for another hard drive (Drive 2) I tested the drive in different slots and even in an external enclosure and it looked completely dead. Weird thing is if I put the original dead (Drive 1) drive back in the computer now Drive 2 would then work again and the AHCI error now points to the original dead drive etc...:??:

SMART showed the dead (Drive 1) drive as having some minor problems so was kinda expected to fail at sometime, but SMART and Defraggler etc showed and still shows Drive 2 as having no problems.

Both drives in question are seagate 3tb drives (yes I know seagate..ugh) that I only used for backup storage (Win 10) ran virus and malware tests and all clean etc. Of the 6 HD's (mixed WD and Seagate) in the PC at the time Its was just these 2 drives that had this problem and seem to be linked somehow and I do not use a RAID for this PC etc, also there was a 3rd identical barracuda drive which also was not affected. Anyway I am replacing both drives just in case but still puzzled as to why it happened.

Thanks in advance I hope I was clear enough.

Hello thanks for replying,

Yes all my drives have current or the newest firmware available via Seagate drive detect etc. Power should not be not an issue running 1600+ (With a UPS) or more than I need for this rig also checked regularly and over the years with the same setup I never had any prior issues with read or write issues with any HDD or had any other power problems with other components or electronic devices that a bad, dirty or weak power supply and or poor home electricity source would noticeably cause. I also use HDD enclosures with their own PSU and cooling as well. Also checked all internal cables and such...
