I bought a cheap Veriton M490 off of gumtree that the seller had plopped an R7 250x in with an i3 530 and 4GB of RAM (getting a 4GB stick). I'd like to know if any of you have suggestions for a better GPU to go with this CPU, I'm not planning on upgrading the CPU unless there are practically no options for 60fps 720p/900p gaming on 'new-ish' stuff on graphic settings that don't look awful. (Overwatch, TF2, CSGO, etc) My budget is $200-$250. Note: Some GPU's may not be compatible with the mobo that comes with the Veriton M490.The stock veriton model the guy sold comes with a 300W power supply, may be subject to change though- as I think it's pretty much a dead power supply, I'm not too handy with PC's or PSU's so we'll be taking it down to a repair guy to either replace it or (if possible) fix it up.. somehow. I'll probably be buying the new GPU within a week. To answer some questions from the guide: Monitor res: 1440x900, I won't be overclocking, I prefer to use Umart, Newegg would be fine too. From Australia. Thanks for any and all advice in advance!

To be brutally honest with you, don't waste your money on this old computer....use it as it is, if you need a new PSU, either get a good one that you can use on a future build or put in the cheapest unit you can find (but don't use it on a future build).
While the R7 250x isn't all that powerful, neither is your CPU, so adding a better graphics card will mostly be a waste of time and money.
1) well according to the motherboard specifications : http://support.questonline.gr/catalog/EA/EAE01D238F419D4B86058CF8DF6A3E32.pdf
your video slot on the motherboard is a industry standard "PCI Express® 2.0 x16 slot"
which means any video card can run on your motherboard

2) The 300w power supply more than likely will need to be replace if you intend to use anything more powerful than a GT 1030 in your system.

3) what kind of case will dictate what kind of Power supply and what kind (normal or slim) video card you can use in your computer

4) by the looks at the manual regarding power supply, it seems to look like an ATX model, which is good news , meaning it can be easily replaced with a better one if need be : https://www.manualslib.com/manual/269382/Acer-Veriton-M490g.html?page=48#manual

The 1050ti can be used with 30W power supply
https://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-1050-ti/specifications
that almost maxes out OP´s budget as well. But a good value CX 450W from corsair may fit into the mix:

This is kind of a stupid question considering my budget, but is the GT 1030 actually a viable option? I mean, it's a pretty cheap low-end card but offers better performance than that of what I currently have. A lot of the cards I have looked at seem to be bottlenecked by my CPU, Would I run into any issue of that nature if I purchased a card such as this one?

What if I were to go 50/50 on a new CPU and a new GPU? $100 on a GPU and $100 on a CPU. I have a GT 1030 in mind if I were to do this (good or bad idea?), I'll do some looking around and see if I can come up with a good CPU for under $100. Edit: The PSU you linked earlier would fit in with the budget resulting in $250 well spent in my opinion.

The best you can get is a Core i5-680 processor and that would still bottleneck a 1050ti, maybe a gt 1030 would work with it. It is not impossible, it just does not worth it. The performance gain would be small and with a slighty larger investment you could change platforms and get way better performance and a future proof rig:
Pentium G4560: $67
MSI B250 Pro VDH: $65
Kingston HyperX 2x4GB DDR4-2400: $102
Gigabyte GTX1050 2GB: $135
Total: $369

Ryzen 2200G: $99 OR Ryzen 2400G: $169
MSI B350 Tomahawk: $80
Corsair LPX 2x4GB DDR4-3200: $116
Total: $295 for 2200G or $365 for 2400G

It is nice reviewing an old rig, if you feel so go for it. It is just not the best bang for your bucks.

I have decided to buy a new 450w PSU, 4gb of ddr3 ram, and a pentium G4560 CPU. I will most likely seek out to buy a GTX 1050 when I have some more money to work with. Thanks for all of your help.

This begs the question ... What motherboard does the m490 even use lol

There is no motherboard that would support both the new Pentium and the i3 530 released with a different socket 8 years ago. That is why I recommended the MSI B250 Pro VDH around $65 motherboard and the more economical Ryzen build with onboard graphics.

What would my options for upgrading the cpu be without replacing the mobo.. If there are any
