I bought an i7-4790 processor for my Asus B85m-g motherboard. After installing the new processor, monitor won't display anything, no boot, no bios. I also bought a cpu cooler, ice edge mini fs 2.0. When i push the power button, everything is running, fans, cpu fan, leds. I have already tried clearing CMOS by removing the battery and returning it and by the jumpers. I am sure that i had the bios version to support the 4790. Just for additional information, my recent processor was i5 4590. What should I do? I am afraid I did something wrong or missed something.

Solution
since you've sold the orig cpu, just pull the 4790 and check real carefully with a light and magnifying glass to make sure you haven't bent any pins. If not, carefully reseat the cpu - take your time, no need to rush

then try again - also check that you've plugged everything back in firmly

if you did bend a pin or two, do a search on youtube on "bent cpu pins repair"

hope that helps

Ya i think that would do but i was so not thinking i just sold my old cpu.

Nine times out of ten, when a computer I've built or upgraded doesn't boot up afterwards, it's due to me not seating something properly/not connecting something.

The bios you'd need, 0904, dates from 2014 so as long as the motherboard dates from then or you've upgraded the bios around that time, you should be good.

This is a good learning experience. Always check for requirements before making a big change. It's a lot easier to flash a bios or download drivers when you are still using your old parts, rather than wait until after you install the new parts. If you have a problem with the new parts, now you're stuck.
