Hey guys i want to make a upgrade but my budget is a bit tight so im going to do it step by step. My questions are - can i use the gpu with my current mobo or i have to buy a new one(gigabyte z87x-d3h)? And second question, my cpu is i5 4670k with 4gb ram, if i buy the card am i gonna have any bottlenecks since i play mainly CSGO?

Yeah really you PC is pretty good get to 8GB of ram (assuming your windows is 64bit) and you are good to go. If you don't already have a SSD drive it be worth it to get one and install the OS to it while it won't help CS go your over all system will feel faster.

is what I had and I was happy with it. You don't have to worry about bottlenecks.

I've well exceeded 4GB of RAM usage. That would make the upgrade seem not so good. I wouldn't add 4GB of RAM. Old and new RAM isn't guaranteed to be coompatible. Only with a RAM kit(2 x 4 or 2 x 8) is compatibility assured. The 4GB can be shelved and used for troubleshooting. 4GB VRAM is enough for 1080p 60Hz gaming.

So from what i understand at the end of the day i dont have to add money for a new mobo and i can use gtx 970 on my current one, right?

For the RAM - im still not buying another kit coz my final plan is to buy a new cpu like 8600k, ill need new motherboard then and my current one would not be usable. To make it totally clear - i just wait for my next salary and its pointless to buy DDR3 right now since ill need DDR4, yes? :D

Right

That's up to you. It is true that the new board will need DDR4. Can your chip handle a 1080? Yes. I took a good 9 months to save enough money in order to afford some recent upgrades. While I will get a performance increase when I upgrade the board, CPU and RAM in my CPU I chose to get the best GFX card(at $10 under MSRP) and in another year or so I will have saved enough to modernize my build.

is what I have now. The 1080 Ti is too much for a 1080p 60Hz TV but I do have a Vive and it allows me any monitor on the market when I upgrade. Pouring $600+(hoping for an i7) for the board, CPU and RAM wouldn't have increased my performance level to where it is now so I chose to go a little( a lot ) overboard for now until I can balance this thing back out.

Haha, i know the feeling mate :p Fair enough but im pretty much satisfied with 970 since i play only CSGO and from what i know the game isnt GPU heavy at all.

Guess ill just try to find some used 4GB kit for 20-30$ till i collect some extra for new cpu, mobo & DDR4.
