So im looking to buy a new gpu to upgrade from my r9 280 however due to the cryptocurrency craze im unable to find good prices on gpus. That being said it seems to me second hand gpus are the way to go. Ive found a few gtx 980tis for just £300 and bids for lower (second hand) while gtx 1060s are near the same price sometimes even more. So should i go for the scond hand gtx 980ti or wait for the prices to drop then buy a gtx 1060.

I'm not doubting, you know about graphics cards but based on what I looked up the 980 is only 5 to 10% better in certain areas. They seem to be almost equivalent, again I dint to to much research. I recently purchased a 1060 6gb, upgraded from 1050ti and man its a major improvement. And I thought the 1050ti was great. But due to the gpu mining situation I was able to get a 1060 for 315 and sell my 1050ti for not much less so it was a no Brainer just had to shop for a good deal

Thanks for the replies however i believe most of the second hand gpus i find would hav eprobably bren used for mining. The gtx 980 is going for under 300 and the gtx 980t for a bit over 300 while as you guys probably the gtx 1060 is sky high at 300 so im wondering if i should wait till proces on current gen drop or buy used a gpu now

The 1060 6GB or at least the least expensive price I saw was $289. $300 isn't sky high.

I purchased a 970 FTW and it died about 3 months after I purchased it. After an RMA and a week I had a new 970 FTW. I invested $329 for that card. I want some insurance on my end if I am going to have $300+ on the line. I agree that that's a good price but it's also a bit of an easy-out that brings a significant risk with it.
