Hi all - I have a microstuttering issue

So i have a beastly machine - i9-7900x 10 core, gtx 1080ti, m.2 drive

I have a displayport cable connected to my gsync monitor - acer 32 inch predator

In the nvidia gsync settings I have gsync set to fullscreen and windowed mode

I have vsync set off in control panel and in-game

I am running in 4k and can reliably produce about 50-55 FPS with everything on max except foliage on high and hairworks on 4x msaa

However, it's weird - I get microstutters if I cap the fps at anything higher than 30

I also get screen tearing - it's almost as if gsync isn't working at all even though I never hit 60 (the refresh for my monitor)

I have tried everything - setting the video card to max performance, doing 1 prerendered frame, all the little tips and tricks I have seen here

can anybody help me with what is going on? I don't understand why the game microstutters and equally importantly I don't understand why I am getting screen tearing at 50 fps with gsync on on a 60hz monitor

Thanks

What version of Windows 10 do you have?
Also show me the exact method you used for the trick you're referring to.

Ok for anybody else having gsync issues, specifically with witcher 3, here is what you do to get rid of the problem

Hold shift and press restart and go into safe mode with networking
Use the DDU uninstaller to uninstall all Nvidia drivers
Restart
Install Nvidia driver 381.65
Use the following nvidia control panel settings: 1 prerendered frame, gsync on full screen and windowed, vsync forced on in control panel, triple buffering off, set power to maximum performance
Turn vsync off in game

Next, restart again in safe mode. Use DDU to disable auto updating of drivers in geforce
Turn off in-game overlays for...

That is strange.

Assuming you're running win10, have you researched on gamebar/fullscreen optimisation? If you haven't, search those two terms and see if disabling helps you.

Fullscreen optimisation is like a blend between full screen and windowed, there could be a glitch there.

Turning gamebar off is supposed to disable fullscreen optimisation but there's also another way to make sure in the compatibility section of the game's exe.

I can look into that. if I set nvidia control panel to fixed refresh and just use vsync, I get no stuttering or tearing and great performance. isn't gsync supposed to be better and much smoother? that's why i forked out 200 extra bucks...if anybody can help explain that would be great

Try reinstalling gpu drivers using ddu first in safemode. Try monitor driver. If you've done these already, get in contact with Acer support.

Seems gsync isnt operating properly as you suspected.

Use fixed refresh for now until Acer gets back, hopefully soon.

If you can, file a bug report to Nvidia, and just use the old drivers. Bugs do slip in the drivers.

Turn off in-game overlays for origin/steam/GOG

Go to windows service and disable auto updates of windows - for windows 10 home you have do it this way - it's not enough to just say don't auto update

You should now have smooth gsync gameplay. Enjoy

TO NVIDIA - there is something seriously fed up with gsync and witcher 3. Please fix thanks - current drivers are not working and it's a huge pain in the ass to make it work re the above. Have a nice day!
