Hello there!

So my computer recently seems to have a slew of issues and I'm beginning to think it stems from a hardware issue. Apologies if this is in the wrong part of the forums.

My computer stopped detecting my microphone on my headset.(I have tried to fix this issue by uninstalling/reinstalling drivers)

My computer seems to have a considerable about of slowdown when retrieving files.
Issues/freezing when saving files in art programs. (Photoshop / Paint Tool Sai / Clip Studio)

I've gotten notices while checking to see if certain games I want to play are compatible with my setup and I've gotten warnings that my graphics card is 7 months overdue for an update but the last driver update available was 7 months ago.

My current specs are:

Windows 8.1 (64 bit)
Processor: Intel i7-4790 CPU @3.60GHz
RAM: 24 GB
AMD R9 200 series
2 TB Harddrive

I do play a lot of games and do artwork on an almost daily basis, so I'm thinking this may be a wear and tear issue, but if anyone has suggestions for me to try that would be great. There may very well be something else going on that I have overlooked.

My budget for updates is about $300 which isn't the best but it's what I have. I already have a 3TB hard drive available for upgrading but I'm wondering if I should get another just to run the system on.

Thank you for any assistance!

Solution
If you suspect HDD hardware issue, check health of your HDD with Hdtune health. Post screenshot.

AMD has released updated driver versions for Windows 10.
Not sure if they are compatible with windows 8. May be it's time to consider OS upgrade.

I'd suggest you upgrade your OS drive to SSD. Crucial MX300/MX500 or Samsung 850Evo/860Evo.
