I have a broken 240gb kingston ssd that my friend owns. He said he will let me have it for $20 if i ever get it working again. Problem is i dont know where to start on how to fix it. It can be detected througb the BIOS though but when I try to reboot using another HDD with Windows 10 on it with the SSD connected, i just get stuck at the loading screen and the hard drive activity indicator stops blinking. Rebooting without the SSD works fine

Solution
I had this issue with a Samsung 850 EVO a few months back and got it back working again but I had to completely erase it. It is possible that since the drive is recognized in BIOS that it may have some corruption leading to the Windows lock-up. I would try PartedMagic or another Linux based or command line interface program that boots from USB to bypass Windows. Then try to secure erase the drive. A good tutorial for secure erase with Parted Magic is here: CNET secure erase an ssd drive with PMagic

Good luck!!

Broken is broken.
Doesn't sound like you can do much with it.

Use either the SATA hot plug (if available), or a USB dock, and connect the SSD only after the rest of the system is actually running.
This is only to hopefully have a look and see whats going on, not to "fix it".

Oh no. I did not read the link you put before i even started googling for solutions.
I am now using DBAN and it is currently in the process. What will happen to the SSD though?
Its just a year old by this time with the warranty gone (he forgot about trying to RMA it for warranty even before approaching to sell to me the SSD)
