10 year old laptop, Brand Quest, has windows 7 and it is very slow.
The guy did a format and he put from Vista to windows 7, after the format the windows are significantly slow.
System properties are :
Processor: Intel Pentium Dual 2.16GHz
RAM: 2 GB
System type: 64 bit

He has now windows 7 ultimate, service pack 1
Now, he did the format because the laptop was slow, but he claims it became even worst after the format. Which I confirm, it is ridiculously slow and annoying.

NOTE: the guy who went and did the format put fake windows.

My thoughts:
as a fast solution, I thought to downgrade his windows and put back the Vista, use avast as a simple antivirus and the end.
Also, it could be that those windows were simply installed with problems.

what do you guys think?
Reinstall windows 7? install windows vista? or even XP? he just likes to play music, he doesn't use it in demanding games or anything. Either he has many programs, few basic stuff.

it is a 10 year old laptop, for sure he might have to upgrade some parts of buy a new one, till then, what can be a solution to check? can windows 7 make an old laptop to run some problems?

I hope I have all the info you people might need, let me know if you need more info.

Thanks,
Charis

Unless there is just no windows 7 drivers for that laptop then windows 7 should not be making a laptop slower than vista.

More likely the issue is the pirated version of windows he has on it. Some of these versions are what you would expect (a windows os with simply the hacks to make it run without a valid license key), but others are loaded with viruses/malware.

Since you dont have a proper windows 7 license you should wipe the hard drive and reinstall windows vista using either the key on the bottom (if the sticker is even readable at this point), or use recovery partition on hard drive (assuming 10 yr old computer still has the original drive or at least original image.

In my experience Windows 7 should be faster than Windows Vista (even the non legit versions). I suspect your HD is slowing you down. Upgrading your HD to a SSD will give you the most bang for your buck. The change in speed will be night and day. The second biggest bang for your dollar would be to increase the RAM too.
