Brand new GTX 1080 is not working, workarounds?

Hello everyone, I recently bought an ABS computer from Newegg (its their own brand). Out of the box, everything ran perfectly, GPU included- I updated windows, browsed internet for a while and installed Steam. Next day the issue started. After troubleshooting a black screen all day long, I confirmed that the GPU is the problem- the rest of the machine works fine. Newegg wants me to return the whole computer (seems totally ridiculous since it works fine and only the GPU is defective), but even if I wanted to they won't accept it without the original packaging- two huge boxes I had to get rid of because they were too big to keep in my apartment and some fillings inside the machine to avoid internal component movement. I have tried reasoning with them and they are looking into alternatives, hopefully they will send a replacement GPU. In the meantime I contacted the manufacturer as well, Zotac, to see if they could help. Alas, their only answer is to arrange this with the seller, Newegg.
I'm afraid Zotac will not help and I'm sceptic on Newegg being more helpful afterwards, so I would like to know if there's something I can do to repair the GPU. It's a Zotac GTX 1080. It's the mini version, according to the image in their catalogue. My power supply is a Cooler Master Masterwatt Lite 600w (currently untiered in this site's PSU list), but I want to think since they built it this way it is not the problem. I already tried the clean driver install and going to an older driver as well.

If newegg is working on this, you have to do what they want. Asking for original boxes back isn't unusual. I would not attempt to repair anything yourself. Doing so would violate the warranty. I'm not sure why exactly you would get rid of the boxes before confirming everything worked. I get they were large boxes and a small apartment, but unless it all worked I would not have dumped them. I do think it's silly they want the entire thing back. Shipping costs would be huge compared to just the card.

I think you just need to hope for the best. Perhaps go to a local shop and get a GPU box? Offer to mail it back in that at your dime? If you tested the PC and it works with IGP and you just need a new card, then perhaps that's an ok way to go.

Hi and thank you for the quick answer. I forgot to mention that out of the box, the computer worked perfectly, gpu included. That's why I thought everything was OK and got rid of the boxes. That night I turned the machine on, updated windows, browsed a little and installed a game. No black screen, no issues at all. Next day the problem started. I'll wait for newegg to get back to me with their solution and will definitely keep in mind your proposal to send them the gpu back myself. Thanks!

Hello, I have an HDMI and a display port cable. I have tried both and none work, I still have the same black screen problem. When it worked the first time I used the HDMI, and I'm also using the HDMI right now to connect to the motherboard directly, with GPU removed from the computer. Everyhing works fine without the GPU, included cables and monitors.

Unfortunately the other slot is inaccesible due to some other cables that are connected to the motherboard physically obstructing the video card from going in. I really don't want to move more things around and risk damage or more problems. Thanks for the suggestion, though.
