Hi. i am planning to turn my Dell 390 mt Desktop into a gaming pc. I have had considered a lot of cards (1050ti and 750ti) but the Nvidia gtx 1060 caught my eye because it's the recommended card for most of the latest titles out there. I was just wondering if it's a good idea to make that upgrade and what would be required if i were to go ahead. Im already guessing i will need a good psu assuming this would work. what psu would u recommend?

My specs
intel i3 processor (3.4ghz 4 threads)
8gb ddr 3 ram
and a 245w psu

Ok, so is it the mini tower or small form factor (like the slim type ones)? I was thinking of the slim ones I think. For power supply check out ones by seasonic, evga, Corsair etc. I think newegg usually sells a seasonic 620 watt a lot of guys like.

If it's not a slim type though, then 1060 should be fine with the right power supply. Do you have a link to the one you're looking at?

Cool. i was worried the card wouldn't be compatible and that my only option would be the 1050 wich isn't as powerful. The one they call mt it's the big one, not sure why they call it the mt or mini tower (dell is weird).

I was looking at this because its costs less and is compatible with dell according to google. would u recommend it? and also, will i need anything more for this to work?

I would suggest look here as a baseline.

That power supply should be ok, but when you look at a power supply, you can see on that one they have 2 12 volt rails rated for 20 amps each. I personally prefer a strong single rail. Like right now I'm running an EVGA 600B with 49 amps on one rail. It's not rated as high on the tier list, but I've had it 3 or so years and it still runs everything fine after 2 systems. I suppose it's almost time to replace it.

thanks for the help man. Now where to get a good deal on that gtx1060,...........

So you are doing a new build them? Cool. Be sure then to check. AMD is releasing Ryzen + around that time, basically a refresh of what's out there now. Current Ryzen systems in my opinion are good bang for the buck, but it would but with checking those. If nothing else maybe you'll catch a sale on older ones.
