Hello, I ve been using gaming headsets for over 7 years now and changed from the old steelseries siberia v2 to logitech g430 a couple of years ago. Both headsets broke but they did their job.But now I want to upgrade to real headphones (not gaming ones) and a separate mic, already got the mic and i m almost sold on buying the akg k612 pro headphones. so my question is, are real headphones really superior for gaming, are they as comfortable and are they really worth it, or should i just buy hyperx cloud 2 and just use the separate mic with them ?

Solution
If you are going with a separate mic, then headset wise I'd suggest the Audio Technica m50x. It's exceptional sound quality. Great for gaming, listening to music and even music production(if you're into that sort of thing). It's also a popular set with DJ's.

1. Higher end headphones generally outperform gaming headsets for the price
2. Comfortable is totally subjective. Your headset will have been a good indication of what sort of style feels good to you. As an example, I've looked at AKG before, but only their suspension style offerings, due to my fondness for the v2s.
3. Worth? Again, subjective. It is a marked improvement in sound quality.

Agree when I got my G430s last year they sounded ok but the build quality just felt like it was going to break, so I gave a good friend of mine the headset with out the USB sound card (so he has a blue pair of G230s lol).

Yes absolutely, I got a pair of Samson SR850s and a Zalman clip mic and they sound much, much better than the G430 set and that is using the USB sound card which is actually pretty good, it uses Dolby and DTS surround modes which is great for games and movies. The semi-open back on the Samson really gives games that use v-surround much more depth and perception in my opinon, the AGKs are full open-back so yes they will also be much better as well.

Well since you already have the mic, you can just get a closed-back set of headphones like the Lyxpro HAS-10 although I feel the open-back like the Samson or AGK would be a better choice.
