Possible Dead Motherboard?

Suddenly, my Lenovo H50-55 won't boot up. It seems to have power but nothing ever shows up on the screen. Pressing various function keys has no effect on the booting process. I'm not even able to boot using a rescue disc or portable Linux using the DVD drive.

I replaced the lithium battery on the motherboard. I've tried unplugging the power to the motherboard and plugging it back in. I've tried unplugging the power cord from the PC and holding the power button to clear that. None of these attempts resulted in any change.

After reading some other posts, I tried a POST test by removing the RAM. Unfortunately, I can't figure out the motherboard manufacturer, so I'm not sure what the beeps mean. It's three short beeps followed by a fourth which is lower. Then pause and repeat. (It sounds like the beginning of Beethoven's 5th Symphony...except all the beeps are the same length.)

Honestly, I'm pretty clueless when it comes to hardware. The PC is under 13 months old...just 3 weeks out of warranty. I contacted Lenovo Support via chat and the first solution offered was to buy a new PC. (That really, really upset me.)

Does this sound like a failed motherboard? If so, is the only option to replace it?

Thank you for the reply. I sincerely appreciate it.

I did discover the linked page you provided during my research. However, I'm not sure it applies. On the Lenovo support site, there seems to be a clear distinction between products with "idea" in the name and ones without that name. (I think the "idea" ones are descendants of IBM's product line.) Anyway, I'm not sure it matters at this point because nothing changed.

I did try doing what you wrote in that order, but no luck. Other than cursing under my breath at Lenovo every time I look at the PC, I'm not sure what my next move will be.

But, thanks for trying to help.

Thanks. Yes, the same beep code happens.

Can someone point me in the direction of a new motherboard? (Even if it's just a detailed article...although I get a bit perplexed with all the options listed on the articles on this site.) This is my work computer. I just do basic stuff: spreadsheets, simple website design, upload/download files via FTP, image editing with GIMP, and occasionally re-sizing videos. No games or anything that requires a ton of processing power.
