I have an hp pro 3000 mt with a duo core e8400, can I upgrade to a core 2 quad q9300, do I need a bios update for it as well?

Your BIOS is outside your operating system so updating it should give no issues with any OS. That is just the way the site it designed. The one with the highest number is the latest version. rev1.45 for example would be newer than rev1.01

Update the BIOS to the latest always before doing a CPU upgrade.

Also stick with the processors that are on the CPU compatibility list. If you deviate from it, things may not work, even if you think they will. Even if q9300 is similar it may not work if it's not on the list for unforeseen reasons. The processors on the list are tested and guaranteed to work. It probably will work, but it might not.

The site only provide bios update for windows 7, and I use winodws 10, can I still update? And there are also 3,4 bios version totally listed which I don't sure which one is the latest one
