Hi ! I am a student and am limited on funds.

I have an old computer, a Dell Studio XPS 7100. The Specs are:

Motherboard: Generic (Factory installed)

CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1090T (Black Edition, Stock Clock)

GPU: Radeon HD 5870 (1GB)

RAM: 8GB Stock (DDR3-1333)

PSU: Corsair C550M (550W) (Changed after the factory installed 460W PSU died)

Windows: 10 Pro (latest updates installed till date)

Will a newer graphics card like the Geforce GTX 1060 (3GB or 6GB) work with this old cpu build ? Will it have any issues due to it being a stock dell motherboard?

Sorry for the late response, was out of touch for a few days. The biggest problem here won't be the GPU, it is the CPU, especially for a game like PUBG which is very CPU dependent. Here is an analysis of playability for Assassins Creed Origins, note how the CPU is lagging the GTX 1050 Ti.

You can expect poorer performance for less optimized games like Arkham Knights and PUBG.

For compatibility pretty sure that a GTX 1xxx series card is possible but I can't say for sure if there will be issues or it will just pop right in. Most...
Okay, the 1090T is a little bit weaker than a Pentium G4560. I would say that a GTX 1060-3GB is a bit of a stretch but the bottleneck wouldn't be huge. To catch up you could overclock the CPU but I don't know if your BIOS will allow overclocking. And not sure how well the Dell mobo would handle the overclock, I suspect not well. So you have two choices, get a 1060-3GB and live with the bottleneck or get a much cheaper GTX 1050 Ti which will match the CPU almost perfectly.

Will I be able to play titles such as The Witcher III (Blood and Wine included), Batman Arkham Knight, Assassin's Creed Origins, PUBG etc @ 1080p and High settings with any of the two cards mentioned above ? Overclocking the CPU is out of the question for me. This is just for the time being. I'll be landing a job by the end of this year after my studies and will buy a proper computer for gaming then.

Also, will the stock dell hardware pose any problems with the cards n question, like a BIOS error or something due to any proprietary stuff?
