How do I find out what motherboard I have? Where do I buy a new motherboard? Can't afford to have it done by Geek Squad.

Laptop won't run on AC power and will not charge. No lights come on when I plug in power cord.

Solution
it's likely the power port is bad. i see it all the time in my shop. the good news is they are cheap to replace and not that hard on most laptops.

i get em off ebay all the time for less than $10. most of the time they are simply screwed in and easily replaced once you tear down the laptop. one way to tell if this is the case is if you can sometimes wiggle around the charger in the port and get it to light up for a moment. or if when fully plugged in, you can move the jack around a lot. often the plastic insert that holds the jack cracks allowing the plug to move around a lot and not make the connection.

i've also seen older laptops where the ground wire has cracked inside keeping it from connecting right. same solution is to...
What motherboard does you laptop have? I do not have my crystal ball today. You have my apologies. We will at least need the laptop's complete make and model number.

HP Pavilion 15-cc055od

I would check internal connections and maybe replace the power connector.

Laptop batteries do not last forever.
My guess is that the battery has failed.
OEM batteries may not work. The battery has circuitry that is needed to run properly, even when plugged in. Buy a replacement of the exact model that came with the laptop.

If you have confidence in the knowledge of the geek squad, you may indeed need a new motherboard.

If the laptop is more than a couple of years old, you may do better to simply replace it.
A motherboard change sounds expensive to me.

geek squad wants the money so they'll replace the mobo even if it is only a $7 part that needs replacing. it's a risk you take when going in there.
