I reformatted my Toshiba canvio 2.0 500gb external hard drive, and now my Dell laptop Windows7 can not use it as a backup source anymore. When I first tried to use it as a backup source again I would get a error message Ox80041321. I then downloaded from Toshiba (portable.hdd.software.exe) and installed the download to the external hard drive. the software download was supposed to reinstall the NTI easy setup software- drivers, etc. and everything else I needed to get it back to working order again. In the process of installing the download and trying to get it working again Microsoft said It could not find the (D:\autorun\installer.exe) link. Somehow I figured how rename that part of the install, and it installed, but I had to restart my computer. I Then tried to use it again as a backup source. Now my computer says the download is a 32bit version and my computer is 64bit, and it probably will not work right. It then says I should try to get a 64bit version of the download. I have not found the 64bit version, and that is why I came to you guys to figure what is possible at this point. I found a good link by Techwalla to format and restore the drive to its default settings and then it should work. I tried that, but then ran into the 32bit - 64bit issue. The drive says it is working properly, but I can not backup to it. I am thinking of getting a new western digital drive, and tossing this one.
