Can I OC a 2500S to 2500 level

Is the 2500S just an underclocked 2500? If I OC to 3.3 GHz will it work fine? Or are the S processors different than just underclocked?

You can't overclock either. You'd need a 2500K and a P67, Z68 or Z77 motherboard.

I got it to 3.0 Ghz already. I can OC a bit

2500S should auto clock from 2.7 GHz to 3.7 GHz depending on load, and should have the limited 4 bin turbo boost clock to hit 4.1 GHz on one core with a p67, z68 or z77 motherboard.

2nd and 3rd gen I5 and I7 has this, it was removed in 4th gen

I forgot about the old Turbo bin overclock. I think some later BIOS revisions actually removed it from LGA 1155 due to Intel not being pleased about it.

The 2500S is also a lower voltage part. 65w vs 95w for the 2500.
