The 6100 puts up a good fight against the 2600, but as mentioned above the extra cores on the 2600 help it pull away. If you look at the Cinebench R10 and 11.5 single core results you see that the 6100 is faster. It just doesn't have as many cores as the 2600K. If you consider price, availability, and system features the 6100 looks a lot better. But it will still be slower than the 2600.
