Wireless connection says limited access

I have tried numerous things to resolve this: ipconfig/release comes up with the error ...the rpc server is unavailable. I get a Error 5: Access Denied when trying to activate the DHCP client service. I know it's an IP issue because when I click on details on my wireless connection status I see the autoconfiguration for my IPv4 starts with 169. I've tried adding permissions to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENT regarding both the DHCP and TCP/IP and no luck still. I still get the message access denied. I should mention that this is only a very recent problem, nothing has changed regarding my pc or my network but one morning my wifi access was limited. Every other device works in my house. I have even tried connecting through my phone's 3G internet but to no avail, same limited connectivity message comes up. Hopefully someone could help. Thankyou

Who manages your network router?

May be difficult to resolve as is because registry changes can be tricky things.... And therefore avoided.

Uninstall the drivers for your wireless adapter.

Download the current adapter drivers via the applicable manufacturer.

Reinstall the drivers and reconfigure the wireless adapter to your router and network.

You will need to have the necessary login information and passwords.

I've unistalled and reinstalled the drivers for my wireless adapter and it says the device is working properly. Even though I'm still unable to access the internet because of limited access

@vikin's suggestions are valid.

But only if there is some problem outside of your having access rights to begin with.

However, if you do not manage the router then someone else does. You may have been "banned". Tweaking your own computer's registry will not solve the problem.

Bottom line: if you do not have the necessary access rights then you will not be able to join the network and gain internet access.

The "169" IP address is the IP address Windows assigns to itself when it cannot otherwise obtain an IP address.

Please run and post the results of "ipconfig /all" (without quotes) via the command prompt.

The results may provide a clue or two about what is, or is not, happening.

Not stupid at all. Just a topic or subject that you are simply not familiar with.

You can work on changing that.

Your goal is to understand more about your wireless network adapter and its' configuration settings. Plus learn how to correct or change them.

Reference the following link, Solution 2:

https://windowsreport.com/ethernet-valid-ip-configuration-windows-10/

First read through the link and, if necessary, google for additional "how-to's" online.

Carefully explore the screens, tabs, and properties until you understand what is being presented and the current configuration with respect to your system. Make no changes until you are sure about what you are doing.

Overall, I believe that you find the subnet mask is 255.255.0.0 when it should be 255.255.255.0

When I set the IP address and subnet mask to what you said I get a message saying windows has detected an IP address conflict. Another computer on this network has the same IP address as this computer. Contact your network administrator for help resolving this issue

Run the Windows 10 Troubleshooter - may find and fix something.

"WIN" + "I" > Update & Security > Troubleshoot

Failing that uninstall and reinstall the network adapter's drivers.

You did that I know. However something may have been undone when you edited the registry.

Fresh start.

And it should now be easier for you to go through the installation and configuration process.

Still seeing "access denied"?

According to your "ipconfig /all" you have a RT73 USB Wireless LAN Card.

Go to the manufacturer's website and ensure that you have downloaded the correct driver. Re-configure.

DHCP Server should be 192.168.0.1, subnet 255.255.255.0

Also try putting the wireless adapter on the end of a USB extension cable so you can raise the wireless adapter up and about. May be able to obtain a stronger signal or otherwise have less interference.

Be sure that your adapter is configured for IPv4. Especially if your ISP service does not include IPv6.

And please post an updated "ipconfig /all". Someone may spot something I am missing.

Still having the same issue.. can't seem to fix it. Would replacing my wireless network adapter help or is it a software issue? Would wiping windows and reinstalling it help the situation? If anyone has any idea on how I can reconnect to my wifi it would be greatly appreciated.

Again run and post the results of "ipconfig /all".

And, reinstalling windows may help. Especially if some error of omission or commission was made during your registry edits.

Best to leave the registry alone unless there is some well-documented and compelling reason for making direct changes.

Right so I've purchased another wireless adapter for my pc as that may have been the issue, installed the latest drivers for the wireless adapter and still no joy. I will post the ipconfig/ all results now.
