So i have had this issue for a long time now and it only recently became an issue that i have to deal with, my connections to websites like login.live.com and gmail are insanely slow and it always comes to "This site can't be reached". I have found a fix and a simple browser VPN solves it and allows me to connect to all of those sites that were not working. But this problem persists with Microsoft store to where i open the app and the home page just loads and does not error but if i attempt to login to the store i get "Something went wrong, Please try again later. 0x80190001". I have found that if i leave the store open after an hour or so the front page does load because it does not have an error screen after not being able to connect for a certain amount of time but the login page does so it does not have the opportunity to ever load. Since the browser VPN worked i downloaded an actual VPN (Tunnel Bear) and it did not solve either issue. With the browser VPN disabled Tunnel Bear did not allow me to connect to the websites or the windows store. I have been writing back and forth with Microsoft support and they did not find a solution (here is the link if you want to look at that https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-networking/connecting-to-microsoft-services-issue/9916c1c2-3fdc-4f58-9d11-bbaf17f5d793?tm=1517627320635). I am pretty sure it is not a Firewall or Antivirus issue and have no clue what the source of the problem could be. Please help, Thanks.

Upgrading to Windows 10 replaced the Windows 7 system files, but it didn't effect settings or what loads. Resetting will reset your settings, remove drivers, and remove applications. Hopefully this will correct the issue you are having. Use the option that keeps your files. Any programs that you use will have to be reinstalled, so you might want to find disks or know where your downloads are. Your personal files will not be removed, but it's still worth having a backup. You also want to get copies of important drivers (lan and video, etc) and put them on a USB stick. This site will give you instructions on how to reset Windows:

You have tried a lot of the things that come to mind. Since it was happening on 2 networks (via your ISP and your Apple hotspot, which I assume was connected to your phone provider network and not wifi), it does seem to be something with your computer. Since things improved when you tried to go through the VPN, I am tempted to think about the possibility of a proxy.

Control Panel -> Internet options -> Connections tab -> Lan Settings ... the proxy would show up at the bottom of the page.

I do not have one set up. Are you recommending i set one up and if so how.

No ... it's just that proxies can interfere with internet traffic (often in a malicious way) and I wanted to be sure that was not the issue.

What happens if you do a "tracert live.com" from a command prompt. Some servers will not respond and this is normal, but you should finish with:
a-0010.a-msedge.net [204.79.197.212]

it went through 13 lines of showing ms and stuff and the last line ended with "qq.com [185.58.207.85]"

it says
"Non-authorative answer:
Name: live.com
Address: 204.79.197.212"

nslookup checks the DNS entry for the site you enter and that seems to be correct, but your tracert seems to indicate your data is going to the wrong server. Was your VPN still running when you ran the tracert?

Some routers have the ability to do tracert. If you can, please log into your router and look for diagnostics page (it might be called something else). Please run a tracert to live.com on the router and compare it a tracert run from your computer. They should be the same (except for the first line). If they are not the same, then something is wrong with your computer. It could be a corrupted file or it could be malicious software.

when i did it i was not on the vpn. But i have no clue how to get the diagnostics page but its pretty safe to assume i believe that it is a computer problem because i can connect to everything on my phone and my mac.

I'm afraid I agree. From the conversation on the MS site, I saw you have already run SFC to look for and repair corrupted files. I wonder if you have run any virus scans other than your AVG?

I would suggest trying 2 ...Malwarebytes and Spybot

I'm going to ponder this some more tonight, but you might have to reinstall window. Hopefully you do backups from time to time. Windows can be reinstalled without losing your files (they call it reset), but it is best to have a backup of your data ... just in case.

i have two hard drives one for basically everything and one for steam games, would this like wipe everything off of both drives? i don't necessarily understand how much this removes.

As long as you use the option "Keep my files", then it does not wipe the drives. Actually, steam will still be on your computer, but the shortcuts to it will be gone, as will settings in the registry. After you reinstall steam, all your games will still be there. I haven't done it with a computer with steam in a while, so I don't remember if you have to tell it the games are in a non-traditional directory or not (alternate library? Something like that).

That said, 1 time in a million something glitches, so if it's important, back it up. If you want to, you can unplug your 2nd drive before resetting and then plug it back in after (I'm assuming you are comfortable doing that ... I told one of my son's buddies to unplug a drive and without even shutting down the computer he reaches in and pulls the cables out ... ummmm ... I need to remember to assume less).
