can I run speakers (aux port) with sub-woofer to hear audio notifications from a work chat room at the same time I am using a headset (usb port) to converse with customers? Will the output be separated while operating both on one pc with one sound card? Clear as mud?

Solution
You can do this under *very* specific circumstances. Windows doesn't like running multiple audio outputs at the same time, and MSFT makes it difficult to do what you want.

If an application you are using allows you to specify an Audio Output device other then the Windows default, then you can set that application to use a different audio output device then the rest of the system, and in this way you can have multiple audio outputs going at the same time. However, very few applications allow you to do this.
