i7 8700 100c on 100% cpu load

hi. my i7 8700 can get to 90 - 100 deg C when under 100% cpu load. this happens when rendering an image using keyshot. the cpu only get this hot when rendering. under normal load (zbrush, internet, youtube) it can go to about 60 deg C.

my specs are:
i7 8700 on stock cooler
masterbox 5 lite (3 120 fans in front and 1 120 at the back)
16gb ram
seasonic focus+ 650W PSU

what can you suggest to lower the cpu temp, specially when rendering.

thanks

Let's assume Intel's included cooler is not likely going to win any awards, is inadequate for rendering video/heavy loads, and that this is not going to be an easy fix short of replacing the stock cooler with something beginning with "Noctua" :)
there is no way you should be getting anywhere near those temps including 60c with just internet. 60 is [strike]hot[/strike] *warm for idle*, 100 [strike]is possible damage or shortened cpu life[/strike] *will throttle and is not normal operating temperatures*.

first off, try resetting your cmos, then uninstall any overclocking software.

if that doesnt work...

its very likely the cpu cooler is not correctly installed. take it off, clean it, reapply thermal paste and watch an instruction video on how to install it properly.

Shrink the area of the render, CPUs are better at rendering multiple small areas (one per core), whereas GPUs are better at rendering a single, larger portion of the render. Also, if you have a Graphics card, use that to render instead.

Otherwise, getting a better cooler.

that isnt going to fix 60c on web & videos though.

Oh, you're right, I didn't see that part. I'll agree with N3rdR4ge as well, then. The rest of the advice should still improve render times and quality (assuming they weren't done to begin with).

My son also noticed his i7 8700 hit 80C when he does render video; his CPU runs at 100%. He has cryorig H7 for CPU cooler with AsRock Z370 Killer SLI/ac. We searched on internet and some people also complain about very high temp with i7 8700. He does not overclock or turn on Multi core enhancement (did not see MCE option on AsRock MB). His CPU Vcore was automatically runs at 1.32 volts at 100% CPU usage. To lower temperature, he change Vcore to 1.275V in the bios. I think it can be lower to around 1.25V but he did not test it yet.

thanks for the reply.

i do not overclock since the cpu a non k model.
i removed the front panel of the case and did a render again and at 100% cpu load, i noticed cpu temp didn't go over 90c. i used CPUID HWMonitor to monitor the cpu temp and load. btw, i am only rendering a 1080 x 1080 image in keyshot, and this will take about 5 mins or so.

doing the same render again, this time returned the front panel and the cpu and rise up to around 96 - 98c.

i'll try re-installing the cooler and see if it make any changes. i'm also planning on using hype 212 as a cooler.

I forgot to mention the 60c i mentioned earlier is the max temp, usually its around 45 - 50c. it goes to 60c when doing some sculpting in zbrush and with chrome openned with several tabs.

thanks. i do have gtx 1050 on my system and i'll try if i can use that to render in keyshot.

thanks. the H7 is also on my list of coolers. I'm not entirely confident in tinkering with the bios but i'll take a look into it.

The problem with high temp is due to too high default voltage on i7 8700. With better cooler, it will definitely show lower temp but the amount of heat it generates is still the same so try to lower your Vcore.

is the VID value in HWMonitor, is the same as the Vcore Bob is referring to? HWMonitor shows the current of VID is 1.122 V, Min. is 0.633 V and the Max value is 1.230 V.

the Max temp reached by the cpu was 97c.

i can take screenshots of HWMonitor later and show it here later.

i also think the case contributes to the problem since the air intake is very limited with the masterbox lite 5. even though the case has 3 intake fans in front, the vent are very small.

thanks. i have the H7, hyper 212 and the noctua d14 on my list of coolers. also looking into cutting some vent holes for the front panel of my case to let more air in.
