Hey guys i'm looking to either build a semi "mid-range" pc or upgrade my current one even thou it would be hard to, and use those parts and make a new one

my current specs are
CPU:Intel Core i7-6700k @ 4.4 Ghz (OC'ED)
Ram: Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 2133MHz 32GB
Mobo: ASUS ROG MAXIMUS VIII RANGER
SSD: 4 x 250 Samsung 850 EVO
SDD/hdd 1 TB samsung
GPU: Nvidia Geforce gtx asus strix 1080 ti
Cooler is CM v8
Case: phantom nzxt 840 high tower
PSU: some gold one with moduls
With this build i'm running 1 dedicated QHD screen (Acer Predetor x34a) and two 1440 @ 144 hz

my goals for the extra pc is that it can run 1440 games at 144hz aiming for size 27"
So question is if i should upgrade my current pc's specs and just use old ones, or actually just buy new parts?

I wanna keep it at around 10.000 DKK // 1.700 USD // 1.350 EURO // 1200 £ // +/- I already have the screen, so that doesn't have to be taken into considerations in the price or essentials like headset / keyboard / mouse (all of this is already covered)

hope to get some guidance!

Thanks in advance.

Upgrade current.

Your target is a high one which is calling for the 1080 Ti because you are wanting to maintain a consistent 144FPS @ 1440p. Let's see what you chose. Nice choice. Do some research into GPU Boost 3.0. 55C is a magic number with that. I have the EVGA 1080 Ti FTW3 Hybrid so I'm familiar with it and my card's behavior. My average in-game temp is 42c but it can climb to 50 or possibly 51. If I use DSR to apply a faux 4K resolution buring gaming, I have seen it up to 64c.

Why the 32GB RAM? Productivity? Still, nothing wrong with that.

6700K OC'd(or not) will handle what you want.

Your rig doesn't need an upgrade. Do you have a HDD/SSD back-up system in place?

I would be more specific with your PSU. Some gold one sure sounds good on paper but others may see this in the future and won't be helped by that.

Since you already have the parts, why not test and see if your current parts does the job?
If it does, you need do nothing.

If not, why not?

If you have a graphics limitation, you could possibly go sli GTX1080ti.
I do not recommend that.
Dual gpu will win you synthetic fps benchmarks, but gameplay may not be good.
Dual gpu is prone to screen tearing, stuttering, and non support in some games.
It is probably best to wait on the next generation of single gpu top end cards; hopefully this year.

If your limitation is cpu, then you need to find out if you are thread limited(you have 8)
or if you are single thread limited which is more usual.
Your 6700K single thread passmark rating is 2351.
The only reasonable upgrade is a I7-8700K with 12 threads and a single thread rating of 2729.
Most 8700K processors can be overclocked to the 4.9 level.
as of 12/01/2017
What % of I7-8700k chips can oc
at a aggressive vcore near 1.4 or so and delidded
4.9 99%
5.0 72%
5.1 43%
5.2 16%
5.3 3%

I find your 4 x 250gb ssd arrangement strange.
I hope you are not using raid-0 which will likely lose you performance.

If you go with a 8700K and a Z370 motherboard, you will have an option to use a M.2 pcie device like the Samsung 960 which is considerably faster sequentially.

My sense is that you are an enthusiast who wants the best and have the budget to buy it.
If you have the itch to upgrade, I think it is time to scratch that itch.

i might not have been clear, i need a 2nd pc as a backup that i can use in another location, thats why im either going to upgrade current, which i can see won't be essentials, i might just buy new pc parts for that 2nd pc that needs to be used somewhere else then home.

I might just upgrade to 8700 + z370 and use my old parts in the new pc thats for secondary stuff.

I'm happy with my current setup and works fine with my requirements.

But how much would 8700k + Z370 really be of an upgrade?

I have 4 x 250 SSD because i got them for like 100 kr each, so 400 kr thats like 50 euro or smth 1 big would be better yes.
