I have an HP Pavilion Dv7 with a 2670QM CPU in it that is on the FCPGA988 socket, will a 3840QM cpu work in it since it's the same socket? They also have the same TDP.
I would contact HP and ask them if there has been any bios updates released for Ivy Bridge on your laptop. Google isn't showing any conclusive answers.
You can replace pga socket cpu's. It's BGA you can't replace unless you have the right skills/equipment. I don't know if the Ivy bridge 3840QM would work because those require bios updates that oem's like HP don't usually bother releasing.
Yeah that's what I'm not sure about, I just wanted to upgrade it to Ivy bridge because the laptop doesn't have a dedicated GPU, so HD 4000 over HD 3000 would be a noticeable improvement.

I will possibly do that once I do get to the point where I have the opportunity to do the upgrade. I just wanted to see if I could clarify this early just because. Wish it had a dedicated GPU so I wouldn't have to deal with this and possibly be able to do more with it, oh well. Thanks!
