Hello fellow PC enthusiasts,

I am seeking for your unbiased advice on my current gaming system. I just bought a new 1080ti to replace my 980ti since I am playing game at 1440p 144hz at ultra. However, I am thinking that the other components may need an upgrade too such as the CPU and Mobo?

This what I have:
SRock Fatal1ty Gaming Fatal1ty Z97 Killer LGA 1150 Intel Z97
i5 6600k
16 GB DDR4 2666

Should I upgrade my CPU and Mobo to make a better system to support the 1080ti?

Thank you for your input.

Solution
If you can get hands on a cheap 6th or 7th gen i7 at a really good price then go ahead and do that.

Otherwise I would just wait 1 more year until 9th gen 10nm Cannon Lake comes out

I think I got the wrong model of the mobo. I am not at home right now to check it, but it is a Fatality mobo. I just don't remember the model :( Thank you

It can use DDR3L RAM, though that is not common. The 6600k is skylake, it was meant to be used with DDR4. Regardless a 6600k is s socket LGA 1151 processor, Z97 boards use socket LGA 1150.

I have some money to spend. The budget is not limited, but I don't want to go too crazy lol.

I checked CPU-Z last night, and it said DDR4. I may be wrong since I bought these almost 2 years ago.

Just tell us when you are home. But still, your system is not that bad, you dont HAVE to upgrade "yet".

With the current mobo that I am using with the 6600k, can it support the 8th gen CPU? Please pardon my noob question. I haven't paid enough attention on PC parts lately.

No, only Z370 boards support 8th gen. If you have a Z series board it is more than likely Z170 chipset.
